Bursary to study Pali established

March 13, 2018 by Religion Admin

The Department for the Study of Religion is pleased to announce that, owing to the generosity and support of Dr. Bryan Levman a recent graduate of the department, a bursary will be available to support one student to study Pali each year for the next five years.

The teaching of Pali was introduced this year into our curriculum and has attracted a great deal of interest among undergraduates and graduates studying South Asian religions, and Buddhism in particular. The most complete and earliest canon of Theravadan Buddhist texts is preserved in Pali, as are some important Hindu texts. The teaching of Pali in the department complements its instruction in Sanskrit and Tibetan.
