MA Student
Biography :
Emily Dumais is a SSHRC-funded MA student in the DSR. She graduated with a BA in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations (ancient stream), Religion, and History from the University of Toronto in 2024. She aims to study the interactions between the 2SLGBTQ+ community and Christian congregations in Toronto. This project will likely involve opening out a new ethnographic field through a comparative study of different denominations and their treatment of 2SLGBTQ+ issues, initially focusing on more queer-positive congregations. This research will consider questions of acceptance/rejection/repression, queer theology, maintaining or growing apart from faith, navigating queer identities and embodiment in religious spaces, and political activism.
