Message Regarding the Strike

March 2, 2015 by Religion Admin

After intensive bargaining between the University and CUPE 3902 Unit 1, the teaching assistants and graduate course instructors who attended a meeting Friday afternoon voted not to send the agreement to the full bargaining unit membership for ratification. CUPE 3902 Unit 1 is now on strike.

While many university classes will continue, classes taught by CUPE 3902 Unit 1 instructors who on strike will be suspended for this week (March 2-6). This is *not* a cancellation of courses; it is only the suspension of classes this week while the University’s administration determines how to proceed.

Not every course taught by a Unit 1 instructor is suspended; some have elected to continue working.

Courses taught by faculty members, and by sessionals belonging to CUPE 3902 Unit 3 will continue as usual.

If your course is to be suspended for this week, you will be notified by email to that effect. If you have not received such a notification, you can assume that you course will go on as usual, but consult the instructor’s Blackboard site for any other messages.

Please watch at the Department’s website for updates on the situation for the following weeks.

The University and the Department are committed to its students as well as its CUPE 3902 Unit 1 members, and will endeavour to ensure that students will receive credit for the courses in which they are enrolled.
