Biography
Tara earned his undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia, majoring in History and minoring in Asian Studies. Throughout his academic journey, he has demonstrated a strong interest in Islam, particularly its intersections with cultural and political dynamics within society. As he joins the Department of Religious Studies with a focus on Islamic Studies, Tara aims to investigate the evolution of dhimmi laws in Indonesia, which is home to the world’s largest Muslim population. He seeks to explore how these laws have changed over time and to understand how their evolution, within the context of a secular, multicultural, and multireligious state, has influenced inter-religious interactions in the region.
