The Department for the Study of Religion (DSR) announces a new award – the Bill and Belle Levman Distinguished Doctoral Fellowship in Religion at the University of Toronto.

DSR alumnus and Buddhist Studies scholar Bryan Levman and his partner Rosemarie Levman have created this endowed award to support and encourage top minds in pursuit of their PhD studies.
This significant support provides much-needed funding for PhD students to pursue research excellence in the DSR, an interdisciplinary and intellectually stimulating environment and the largest and most comprehensive graduate program in the study of religion within Canada.
Bryan and Rosi are long-time donors to our department, having established the Bill and Belle Levman Graduate Award (formerly known as the William Levman Scholarship) in 2018 for graduate students in the DSR studying Buddhist Studies, with a focus on Pali or Theravada Buddhism.
Building on this long-standing relationship with the Department, Bryan and Rosi’s latest gift pays tribute to his parents, as he describes it: "Honouring our parents who imbued their children with the core values of love, compassion and respect, the core values of all religions taught in the DSR." Their generosity and vision reflect these very values and will have a lasting impact on future generations of scholars.
